Family Mini-Golf

To start off the July 4th week, we went to Cascade Golf course and had a BBQ and played miniature golf with the whole family. Good times were had by all.

CILLA'S BIRTHDAY!

My Mom celebrated a huge milestone birthday on May 8th. I won't say how old- just in case- but by her looks I'd say she just turned 30. Our family celebrated with her the day before. My cute Dad put together the best birthday party I have ever seen. He is always so thoughtful, it makes all the son-in-laws nervous how to keep up :)

After eating a yummy dinner including all my Mom's favorites, my Dad surprised us all with the most amazing birthday cake I have ever seen. On the cake, was my Mom's 'road through life'. The road started at the bottom tier of the cake with my Mom and Dad's wedding, and wound around all three tiers, including all of the kid's birthdays (every single birthday was wrong, and my Dad claims he gave the cake maker the correct birthdays and she messed them up- I am not quite so sure), each of the grandkids, and all of my Mom's favorite things like 'Cilla's day', home, and music. It was so fun to look at, we admired it forever and almost didn't dare cut into it to eat because it was too cute to ruin.

After we admired the cake, there was a surprise knock at the door. It was one our longtime family friends- Del Moody. He had written a birthday song (my Dad asked him) for my Mom. It was the sweetest, and most hilarious song ever. He has a beautiful voice, and got my Mom down to a tee.

To top off the night, the entire family took a walk around the block together. It was so enjoyable. I hope my Mom had the best birthday ever. Thanks Dad for being so sweet and thoughtful, and putting it all together. We all love you both.

Dave, Shea, Landry, Livy, Grandpa Frank and Grandma Cilla went to Los Angeles for a combination mini vacation and business trip. We all had a great time even though it was a little cold and rainy the day we went to Disneyland--Landry didn't notice.

Cilla was cold all day at Disneyland, and I got a little too warm and took off my sweater and let Cilla add it to her collection of winter wear. Cilla came without any money so I gave her $50 which she spent at the first store --hat, gloves, scarf.

I wanna have long hair

Chance wanted so much to hold his new little cousin, Livvy. He washed his hands and did everything he was asked to be able to hold her. Once in his arms, Chance turned into a "soft marshmallow" and was so gentle with his little cousin. Without prompting, he gave her a soft little kiss on her cheek (captured on film by grandma Cilla).

Sunday we were given the best pre-Christmas present from Shea--a beautiful baby granddaugther, Livy. Livy was 6lbs. 8 oz. with lots of dark hair and everything else is perfect on her. Mother and daughter are both doing well.

Chance is so in love with his "Pappee". We had the privilege of going to St. George with them and staying at their condo. My dad went down for the World Senior Games. I am not being biased when I say that my dad is in better shape than anyone his age, or my age for that matter. It is so fun to watch him play basketball. Their team took the silver medal. When my dad had free time, he spent it with the kids. He is the best grandpa ever. He is so much fun and loves to play just as much as the kids. I shot this candid picture and I love it. Scott and Christie Kirkland invited the Woods, Warners, and us (Davis') to spend a few days at their cabin in Island Park sitting on the shores of Island Park Resavoir. We had a great time just kicking back and enjoying the setting which was breathtaking. We boated, played (horseshoes, basketball,and wiffleball), walked, rode bikes, toured West Yellowstone, played games, watched movies, and ate way too much good food. It was a relaxing and very enjoyable few days together--thanks again Kirklands.

Papa had his "62" birthday on Sunday and had the best birthday possible just having my family around me and enjoying my grandkids. The Davis Family Reunion 2008 in Bear Lake.

We all had so much fun at the reunion in Bear Lake. The whole family packed up in a huge RV and drove down together. We camped at a beautiful private campsite. We had s'mores and an outdoor movie. Everyone enjoyed visiting with cousins and family. We spent one freezing night camping, and the next day at the beach with perfect weather. Everyone spent the day boating, playing in the sand, eating, and catching up. What a fun time! Can't wait for next year.

Spencer's Skydiving Adventures

I'm not much of a blogger but thought I'd join my pops in giving this a whirl. I had a great idea of going skydiving while my dad and I were on our way to London earlier in the summer. I asked if he would be up for it and he quickly responded, "You bet!" Needless to say, the hardest part was finding a time we could both do it. We finally got it scheduled, and didn't let many people know beforehand (including Mom, Sommer, or Shea).

Air Borne

When the jump cord is pulled for the parachute--it's like being stopped in mid air. The free fall was at 110 miles/hr, so it's quite an abrupt stop. The view is spectacular. I have to admit, I did get a little queasy during the parachuting part as my pilot maneuvered the chute around in circles.

Every Tuesday is Savanna's day at Grandmas'. She usually brings her best friend Julia. They spend the afternoon creating all sorts of fun things to do--usually involves dressing up. When I (Grandpa) come home from work, I get the best loves and welcome from both of these little princesses. Julia hugs me also and calls me Papa (I love her just like one of my own grandkids)

Grandpa Frank (me) was on the phone when I heard someone pounding on the drums in Spencer's room. I went in and Chance was all smiles as he beat on the different drums. I wish I had my video camera as he was so animated and happy with his drumming. He had crawled up on the stool and was kneeling on it and "going to town" with the drum sticks.

Cilla, Spencer and I went to California on Thursday through Saturday to attend the wedding of Andrew Wood, Spencer's friend from gradeschool on, and son of Priscilla and my very good friends, Doug and Barbara Wood. It was a fun and unique experience witnessing and participating in an Indian wedding (Andrew's brides family is from India). Saturday was an all day event culminating with a reception (Indian style) at the Hyatt Regency in Huntington Beach, CA. I am including a few pictures of the event.

On one of Savanna's Tuesdays with Grandpa and Grandma, we had a nice snowstorm and Savanna wanted to build a snowman. She rolled the snowball into a big part of the body and directed the rest of the creation. Nothing more enjoyable than spending quality time with my "Princess"

Mission President 90th birthday

On Friday evening Priscilla and I went to a 90th birthday celebration of my mission President, Lloyd Hicken. He had personally called me the during the week to make sure I was coming. I was really surprised and taken back that he would call me to make sure I was coming to his birthday celebration and missionary reunion. President Hicken served in Brazil as one of the first group of missionaries called to that country in the late 1930's. Others with him included James E. Faust & W.Grant Bangeter. I served as his assistant for 6 months and really gained a greater appreciation for what a great man he was and is. He currently serves as a sealer in the Bountiful Temple. The only downside of the reunion was to look around and see how old everyone looked and realize that I am one of them. I was asked a few times if I robbed the craddle in marrying Priscilla--she looked like she could have been the daughter of most of the women there.

It's that time of year again- time for the Senior Olympics. My dad looks forward to it every year. Mostly, I think, because it is a great self-esteem boost. How couldn't be? Every year he gets carded- 'You can't be old enough to play!'. Other teams throw fits about the 'young player'. I'm sure he must be the only guy over 60 that still can claim he has a 6 pack, all of his hair, and practically no grey! (Sorry Dad, but if your own daughter can't brag about you, then who can?) Every year his team does really well, often taking the gold medal. These senior olympics are no joke, the players are very competitive. Several of them are former college and NBA players! So good luck Dad- we wish you the best!
By the way, I must mention my Dad entered the individual Senior Olympics in Provo and took the gold. He made 20 of 25 free-throws, and 6 of 6 3 pointers! Good job Dad!

Papa's Birthday Fishing Excursion

I treated myself to a birthday present--a fishing trip to Idaho with Del Moody, his son-in-law and my best friend in High School, Clyde Marquez. I visited Clyde 3 weeks ago when Priscilla and I went to Idaho Falls for her 40 year class reunion. He told me then about catching a 9lb fish from Henry's Lake earlier that week. That got me excited enough to suggest I come back in a couple of weeks for my birthday and go after some big fish. As Del Moody is a true blue fisherman (and also has a nice fishing boat), I invited him to go along with me. We ended up not taking his boat as talking with Clyde prior to leaving, he said he felt we would do fine from the shore. We arrived at Henry's Lake around 4:00pm Thursday and rigged our outfits up according to Clyde's instructions. Clyde suggested that the fish usually start biting around 6:00pm so we set our poles in "rock" holders and just keep a watch on them. For two hours nothing happened--not a single bite. We were having a nice chat when Clyde yelled out excitedly about Del's pole heading toward the Lake. We all turned around in time to see the pole and reel airborne into the lake. There was no chance to catch it or retrieve it. Del was not a happy camper losing a $200 fishing pole and reel. He headed back to the truck to get another pole. Not wanting to experience the same fate, I pick up my pole and held it (it was now 5:50pm and "time for fish to bite"). After a few minutes I got a strike and set the hook. As I played the fish in, a fishing pole surfaced with a broken tip (Del's). I reeled in the pole and took hold to find the fish was still on Del's pole. The fish had apparently drug the pole around and eventually crossed my line which was probably 60' out from the shore. Anyway I pulled the fish in and landed him with the help of Clyde. We estimate the fish to be around 13-14lbs.--fat and beautiful. Since this sounds like a wild fish story, I attached the photo of the fish along with me me holding the broken pole.
